MASQUERADE

My little collection of costumes. Being from the College of Fine Arts in UP means joining the Lantern Parade every year, and after the first three times I started getting the hang of things.

This is a small documentation of all the times I dressed up (either for the Lantern Parade or for Halloween) and the impossibly wanky situations I get myself into.

This was especially memorable year for me as I wasn't required to join the Fine Arts parade. I got the arnis club to go as the fellowship, and with the help of some of my Fine Arts friends we were able to get a cast of 20 people playing out a Lord of the Rings skit. (We had Ringwraiths and Elven warriors as extras.)

It was a brilliant feeling at the end of the parade when we won the Judge's Choice award, and I got to keep the little plaque we were presented with. :) (The cash prize went to buying new armor for the club, though. Lol. Oh well.)

(The theme of the College of Fine Arts at the time was Superheroes and everyone just had a fantastic time. There were students costumed in everything from Voltes V to X-men to Harry Potter. Utterly brilliant year.) :)

Lantern Parade 2000
(UP Diliman)

My very first Parade. My class at Fine Arts was required to make a ten-foot float for every 3 people, so Mishel, Carla and I grouped to make this Liquid Correction pen. (Our theme at the time was Art Materials).

Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of it when it was 100% finished, but by the day of the parade the "tummy" of the pen lit up with white light from the inside. The gimmick we concocted was a tip that really spurted white liquid, and we ended up using a spray pump for gardening and non-fat milk.

It wasn't the best float we ever made, but it was my very first one nonetheless. Incidentally, I have no pictures of the Latern Parade in 2001, but we all had to go as Fireflies (I had a light-up butt). :P
